Dr. Oz(zie)

I know, I know, you are thinking what is with this page? Well, I am happy to announce that Midway has a new counseling dog! I have been working diligently with Ozzie for almost a year preparing for school. He is training to become a certified therapy dog! A therapy dog is a dog trained to provide affection and comfort to people in hospitals, retirement homes, nursing homes, schools and to people with learning difficulties. Therapy dogs come in all sizes and breeds. The most important characteristic of a therapy dog is its temperament. A good therapy dog must be friendly, patient, confident, gentle, and at ease in all situations. Therapy dogs must enjoy human contact and be content to be petted, and handled, sometimes clumsily. A therapy dog’s primary job is to allow unfamiliar people to make physical contact with it and enjoy that contact. While Ozzie is still in training he LOVES children, thoroughly enjoys being petted, walked, and played with. Children are be able to read to Ozzie, take him for walks with Mrs. Kennedy or pour their hearts out to this special friend. Animals can have such a profound impact on a person and I hope Ozzie will bring happiness to our kiddos at Midway! I want to send a special thanks to Laurel Smith with Triple L Farm who donated Ozzie to me (no cost) because she understands how beneficial this can be for our kids too:) You can check out her website here.
